Investigation On The Classroom Interaction In Intermediate Reading Course Of Teaching Chinese As A Second Language

Class teaching is generally basic for teaching a language,while the interaction is the fundamental element in the class teaching.In order to understand the interaction between teachers and students in TCSL reading course,this paper analyzes and investigates two intermediate reading classes through the classroom observation,the class performance and the class section cases in the College of International Cultural Exchange,Central China Normal University.The research materials in this paper originate from the 16 periods classroom videos,totaling 720 minutes,which are used to observe and study the teacher-student discourse interaction,classroom interaction types and interaction activities.Based on the types of teacher-student discourse interaction and classroom interaction,this paper makes statistic analysis for two typical classes within 1 period to explore the classroom attributes,speech behavior ordered pairs,teacher-student speech ratio,teacher-student speech interaction curve,teacher-student question and answer and the composition of interaction types.In the interactive activities,this paper uses 16 periods as the case analysis materials,sorts out 7 activities from the teaching contents including vocabulary,sentence and discourse and discusses the measures for improvement.Classroom observation data show that:regarding to the speech interaction,the teachers occupy too much speech time while the students' speech time is limited;meanwhile,the feedback on the teachers' speech is rare and the students lack the motivation to communicate with the teachers.The composition of the interaction type is mainly the interaction between teacher with whole class and teacher with individual students,and the form of classroom interaction is not diversified;although the classroom activities have certain effectiveness,there are insufficient repetitive exercises for students and mismatching perception between teachers and students.In view of the above observation,we put forward some teaching suggestions on optimizing teacher's discourse strategy,enhancing students' language output,carrying out cooperative reading in class,reducing teachers' and students' perception mismatch of activities,and improving the design and implementation of activities.The innovation of this paper focuses on the transformation of observation tools and the exploration of observation content,which specifically represents on the replacement and subdivision on the coding of the Flanders interactive analysis system,without affecting the data matrix and statistical analysis,so as to better meet the research purpose of this paper;on the other hand,the analysis unit of speech behavior line is explored in the observation content.Although the analysis on the classroom interaction of the observation video in this paper is full and in detail,this paper lacks the questionnaire survey or interview for teachers and students limited by the questionnaire survey term and epidemic prevention and control,which needs to be improved in the future survey and research.
