Grammar teaching is an important part of English teaching,which shoulders the task of cultivating students' language ability.During many years of English teaching practice in our country,the importance of grammar teaching has been widely recognized,but the current situation of grammar teaching is not optimistic.Due to the pressure of the college entrance examination and the influence of the language environment,many teachers still teach grammar by traditional cramming pattern.The traditional grammar teaching content is boring and the method lacks of interest,which makes the grammar teaching time-consuming and inefficient,making students lose their interest and confidence in grammar learning.Therefore,it is necessary to explore a new model of grammar teaching,improve the quality of grammar teaching,in order to promote the development of students' comprehensive language use ability.With the rapid development of information technology,Situational Teaching Method came into being.It is a combination of visual and auditory teaching method,which derived from Palmer's oral teaching method and advocated by the famous British scholar Hornby.Since it was applied in language teaching at the beginning of the 20 th century,Situational Teaching Method has attracted the attention of many experts and scholars at home and abroad,and a research upsurge has emerged.They have studied the situational approach from different aspects of language teaching(listening,speaking,reading,writing,etc.)to different students(college,middle school,primary school),and made some achievements.This thesis aims to explore the guiding and practical significance of situational method in grammar teaching in senior high schools through an empirical research.The research questions of this paper are as follows:1)To what an extent can the application of Situational Teaching Method affect students' attitude toward English grammar learning?2)In what aspects can the application of the Situational Teaching Method improve students' English grammar ability?In this study,103 students from two parallel classes in grade one of Yuhua Elite school were selected as research objects.One class is EC,which adopted Situational Teaching Method to English grammar teaching.The other class for the control class,the implementation of traditional grammar teaching.The study lasted four months.Before the experiment,it was found that the grammar level of the two classes was basically the same.In the experiment,two questionnaires,three tests(pre-test,mid-test,post-test),one interview and other qualitative and quantitative research methods were adopted.After the experiment,the author carefully collated all the data and analyzed them with SPSS 20.0.The results showed that,compared with the traditional grammar teaching method,the situational teaching method is more effective and better in actual classroom teaching.It can improve students' academic performance and comprehensive ability by improving their initiative and participation in class and helping them to improve learning habits,which is more efficient than traditional teaching.
