The internationalization of Higher Education has been gradually making significant changes to people‘s worldviews and way of life.Universities provide a venue for cultural exchange;as a result,the interactions between Chinese and foreign universities are becoming closer and more frequent.Thus,the cultivation of international communicative competence deserves special attention as it plays a significant role in whether a large number of students and scholars have smooth and happy lives overseas.The author makes use of her half-year visiting experience at WOU to conduct research on intercultural communication competence and tries to explore the factors that make their ICC different.84 students and 36 scholars who are currently studying at WOU are hosen as research subjects.In the course of research,the literature Retrieval Analysis is first adopted to clear the definition,components and measurement model of intercultural communication competence.Under the support of related theories,the intercultural intelligence scale is used to observe the level as well as the characteristics of samples‘ intercultural communication competence.Based on analyzing the data,a list of specific questions is designed to enquire about participants who have comparatively higher or lower intercultural competence.Contrastive analysis is applied in the last part to verify the main factors of intercultural communication competence.Finally,according to the research findings,some effective suggestions are provided to those who are planning to go abroad and for intercultural communication related courses.The research findings suggest that the scholars‘ intercultural communication competence is slightly higher than that of students.Their ICC are currently reaching a certain level,but still need be improved.The data analysis shows evidence of a strong correlation among four dimensions of intercultural communication competence;that is to say,overall intercultural communication competence could be improved by one dimension that is relatively easy to improve.Further analysis reveals that the language,the awareness of intercultural communication,and the understanding degree of target country,personality and major are the main factors in influencing intercultural communication competence.
