From the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century,due to the expansion of British colonial forces in Malaya,there were two waves of Chinese immigrants going south to the Nanyang.The first wave of immigration was mainly to work as a labor force.Most were illiterate;the second immigration wave was mostly literati and intellectuals.Thanks to the hard work of the former,the social and economic development of Nanyang in the early 20th century was flourishing.At this time,some overseas Chinese began to care about their own national culture and status,and managed to uphold the national spirit in Nanyang.Under such a background,Li Jian was invited to Nanyang as an educator and calligrapher from 1926 to 1935 to hold a calligraphy and painting exhibition,school,publications,etc.,to allow Nanyang compatriots to open up to traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting.Understanding of the essence,advocating upholding the culture and art of the motherland.During the period,Li Jian also spread the calligraphy of the"Jinshi Calligraphy School" created by his second father Li Ruiqing to Nanyang,met his disciple Zheng Yifeng,and taught Jinshi calligraphy,making a contribution to the pioneering of Nanyang calligraphy.The academic circles mentioned Li Jian’s deeds in Nanyang but only briefly.It has affected the specific situation of Li Jian’s career development after he arrived in Nanyang,his artistic education thoughts,the influence of his calligraphy and painting,the ins and outs of teaching Jinshi calligraphy,and Li Jian leaving Nanyang the subsequent issues of subsequent development have not been systematically sorted out,so this article attempts to sort out this aspect.The research in this article first explains the construction of Li Jian’s artistic thought and the formation of calligraphy style under the influence of Li Ruiqing.Since Li Jian was young,Li Ruiqing focused on training and was deeply influenced by his art.Therefore,the construction of Li Jian’s artistic thought is closely related to Li Ruiqing.Second,analyze and sort out Li Jian’s historical origins and context in the early Nanyang period,Li Jian ’s cultural career and activities during the Nanyang period,and his calligraphy relics after he left Nanyang in the late Nanyang period,in an attempt to present Li Jian’s eight-year Nanyang career.Third,during the Nanyang period,Li Jian taught the calligraphy of the"Jinshi Calligraphy School" created by Li Ruiqing to his disciple Zheng Yifeng.By observing the calligraphy works of Li Ruiqing,Li Jian and Zheng Yifeng,he analyzed the characteristics of the style of calligraphy,the practice of calligraphy,and the theory View.Finally,a brief description of the subsequent development of the "Jinshi Calligraphy School"in Nanyang.So far,there is a lack of scattered research data on Li Jian,and the literature in Nanyang is scarce and difficult to search.In the process of research,through interviews and references to various literatures,as far as possible,collect and sort out scattered literature materials,try to understand the spread of the calligraphy of the Republic of China in the Nanyang by studying Li Jian ’s deeds in the Nanyang,and use Li Jian in the horse Zheng Yifeng,the only disciple in Malaysia,used as a link to outline the spread and subsequent development of Li’s calligraphy overseas.During the period of the Republic of China,whether in China or from Nanyang,Li Jian was an individual with considerable artistic achievements and contributions to art education.He also had his own unique perspective on academic theory,which is worthy of future studies.The purpose of this article is to introduce the spread of Li Jian’s calligraphy overseas,to provide information for scholars studying overseas calligraphy,and to hope to achieve the effect of attracting attention to the spread of Li Jian and overseas calligraphy and the study of Li Jian’s calligraphy.
