From Text To Image

Images are becoming increasingly important in our daily lives;accordingly,the role of the image in literature is receiving more attention.Literary works have been intimately connected to imagery since ancient times and are even more interlinked in modernity.Nine Songs is a classic work of narrative literature rich in characters,images and plots,renowned for its imagination and vivid story-telling,and closely linked to the imagery of the Paintings of the Nine Songs.This thesis takes the aforementioned Paintings of the Nine Songs as its starting point and the text of Nine Songs as its reference,discussing in detail the relationship between the two works,and analyzing various aspects of the relationship between text and image in this particular case.First of all,this work ordered important study about Nine Songs,including the nature,background and characters of that.It compared the text and paintings,discussed the relationship between text and image about characterization from the point of characters’ nature,gender and auxiliary images;it also discussed the relationship between text and image about picture composition and content’s performance from the point of plots,relationship of characters and composition,as well as the way they expressed the content in different works.Second,it discussed the features of the Paintings of Nine Songs with scenery and those without,analyzed the literati’s features and social functions of the paintings created according to narrative literature.And analyzed the complex factors which affect the creations from the point of creating purpose,methods,historical background and painters’ life.Finally,it summarily analyzed the discussion above and summarized all the effects that paintings might get during the creating process.It analyzed the artistic features of literature and image,the quality and creating methods of the images as well as how to make it better.
