Political Appeal And Cultural Identity

Le Clezio is a French contemporary novelist and winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize in literature.Many of his novels,such as the Desert,Onicha,African,Goldfish,Wandering Star,Urania,and so on,are mainly concerned with the issue of identity politics.This paper mainly discusses this issue and explores the core of identity politics in le clezio’s novels,namely legitimate political claims and identity(cultural identification)of marginalized groups(ethnic minorities).The first part of the paper is the introduction.On the basis of combing the previous research results,it mainly discusses the issue of identity politics and its significance,and defines the two core concepts of "identity" and "identity politics".The main part of the paper is divided into three chapters:The first chapter mainly discusses Le Clezio ’s attitude,thinking and exploration on the issue of identity politics.Le Clezio is against the identity discrimination and political and cultural persecution of marginal groups in western society,and criticizes the western culture’s covering,snub and exclusion of marginal vulnerable cultures.In order to show and reflect on the issue of identity politics,Le Clezio explores from three aspects:One is to write about the exploration of self-identity of different ethnic groups and cultural groups,inspect the fate and identity dilemma of marginal groups in heterogeneous political and cultural spaces,reconstruct the identity mode of marginal groups,and then express the cultural identity and political demands of marginal groups.The second is to restate history,subvert the grand narrative of western historical discourse with the micro-narration of marginal crowds,reconstruct the subject’s historical memory and identity awareness,and highlight the historical presence of marginal subjects and the historical legitimacy of identity politics.The third is to describe diverse ethical conflicts,create a tense textual context,and highlight the sharpness and complexity of identity politics.Regarding how to solve contemporary identity politics,Le Clezio emphasized returning to literature itself,exposing and criticizing identity issues under the global political and cultural inequality system and pattern in the form of literary art,and trying to achieve mutual respect,tolerance and exchange between different cultural groups through literary forms,and build a diverse and balanced world culture.The second chapter mainly discusses the specific manifestations of identity politics in Le Clezio ’s novels.In the novel,Le Clezio used amazing artistic imagination and artistic creativity to integrate identity political issues into concrete and perceptible literary images,focusing on the multicultural identity structure and shaping "Africans""Immigrants" and "Exiles",which shows the changes in the thoughts,emotions,identities,values,cultural identity,etc.of different individuals or groups in historical time and space,and exposes multiple contradictions such as the self-contradictions,social conflicts and ethical contradictions,objectively present the identity dilemma,cultural crisis and political tragedy of the characters,thus showing the diversity and complexity of identity political issues.The third chapter mainly discusses the expression of identity politics in Le Clezio’s novels.Le Clezio created ironic narratives,spatial narratives and "cross-border narratives" in his novels.In terms of artistic expression,ironic narratives seek to maximize the power of words and expressions,conveying the ideals of cultural identity construction,Western discourse deconstruction and the legality of political appeal with four types of verbal irony;spatial narratives use the concrete and visual historical and cultural context of construction to restore the occurrence of identity politics,the spatial situation of political appeal and identity generation to the greatest extent;"cross-border narrative" is the most unique narrative method of the novel,it conveys Le Clezio’s deep thinking about the cultural issues and identity issues of identity politics with narrative styles of "cross-border characters","cross-border styles" and "cross-border cultures".The conclusion of the thesis is summary and prospect,which mainly summarizes the research ideas and conclusions of this article,as well as the direction of further thinking and research on identity politics.
