In 1938,Pearl S.Buck won the Nobel Prize for Literature. One of the reasons for winning the prize is her masterpiece in biography. It can be seen that Pearl S.Buck's skill and achievement in Biography Writing.Pearl S.Buck wrote The Exile (1921) in the dilemma of exile status, marking the beginning of her writing career.Fighting Angel (1931) is the expression of Pearl S.Buck's individual values. My Several Worlds (1953) is Pearl S.Buck's summary of the whole life.It can be said that biographical writing runs through her writing career. Two worlds and multiple cultures have brings Pearl S.Buck not only identity dilemma, but also unique cultural life experience.she regards her parents' brave and innovative life as part of her years.she reveals herself by writing biographies for her parents. The Exile,Fighting Angel and My Several Worlds are Pearl S.Buck's complete autobiography.Studying three autobiographies is of great significance for understanding Pearl S.Buck's creation, personal values, changes in self-identity cognition and the process of identity construction. This article takes The Exile,Fighting Angel and My Several Worlds as the research objects, and also refers to Pearl S.Buck's non-biographical works such as The Good Earth,East Wind:West Wind and Pavilion of Women to explore Pearl S.Buck's changes in self-identity cognition and process of identity construction in her autobiographical works. This paper mainly discusses from the following five aspects:In the introduction, firstly,I discuss Pearl S.Buck's biography creation and the value of choosing The Exile,Fighting Angel and as the main research objects.Secondly,on the basis of summarizing the domestic and overseas research results of Pearl S.Buck's biography,I put forward the research ideas and main contents of this paper. The first chapter focuses on The Exile, mainly discusses Pearl S.Buck's similar identity dilemma with her mother Kelly and Pearl S.Buck's voice desire under the identity dilemma.Pearl S.Buck defined Kelly as the loneliest person in the world and was exiled by God,his motherland and her husband.Pearl S.Buck is focusing on herself.Like Kelly, she is experiencing identity dilemma and has no spiritual home to follow.Facing exile status and aphasia status in marriage,Pearl S.Buck chose a completely different way from Kelly and decided to make her voice heard by writing.Dickens' novels and Kelly's love and education gave birth to Pearl S.Buck's writing consciousness. At the same time,Pearl S.Buck's feminism sprouted because of her concern for her mother's living condition and her strong demand for women's dignity and freedom. The second chapter revolves around Fighting Angel.Pearl S.Buck depicts Andrew's transcendent soul dedicated to God through real and mirror-images.After experiencing a series of traumas such as marriage failure and war-induced displacement, she gradually seeks for her own identity from her re-understanding of marriage and his father.Andrew is her father's image in the mirror.Pearl S.Buck depicts Andrew's image as an fighting angel through real and mirror-images.She acknowledges his father's efforts in missionary work and believes that his father is the happiest person in the world. At the same time,Andrew is also Pearl S.Buck's image in the mirror.Pearl S.Buck and Andrew are both angels with noble goals and fighting for them.In the mean time,Pearl S.Buck also has a new understanding of the parents' marriage.Although there are quarrels and estrangements in the parents' marriage, their common belief and deeper understanding and tolerance make them come to the end.The understanding of father and marriage enabled Pearl S.Buck to seek her own identity, that is,to have equal status in both sexes and to inherit and develop the missionary identity dialectically. The third chapter focuses on My Several Worlds written by Pearl S.Buck in her later years, combining the two biographies of The Exile and Fighting Angel. It focuses on the difficult choices made by Pearl S.Buck in the context of cultural conflicts between China and the United States,as well as the pain and thinking brought to her by such choices. In her thinking, she established her writing mission:to speak for the marginal and to reshape the status of women. In the end,she established the identity ideal of a humanitarian,a feminist and a messenger of world cultural exchange.Pearl S.Buck's ideological changes are also reflected in the non-biographical works of the same period. The third chapter will appropriately combine the non-biographical works of the author in different periods to prove the process of his ideological changes in different periods. The conclusion part is a summary of the full paper.Pearl S.Buck expresses herself in many ways in The Exile and Fighting Angel and reveals herself in My Several Worlds directly.Connecting these three works can understand the change of self-identity cognition and the process of identity construction that Pearl S.Buck wants to express fully, and can also understand the essence of Pearl S.Buck's life better.
