The shift in new history science has led people to turn their eyes from "historical facts" to "historical knowledge",which researches history in a more complex context instead of depending on cold data.Under this background, oral history,as a way to collect historical data, started to enter the public's vision. With the continuous enrichment of audiovisual means, the combination of oral history and video has become an inevitable trend, which can ensure the original oral content to be presented to the greatest extent by the narrator. The birth of the oral historical documentary allows the audience not only to focus on the historical event itself, but also on the memory and influence left to the person concerned by the historical event. These accumulated or "distorted" memories should also have their significance and value. The individual memory presented in the oral historical documentary is an important basis of the collective memory. The preservation of memory has passed through the stages of physical, oral, cultural, audio and image transmission. The memory passed down from one generation to another is the basic foundation of self-awareness and social development. With the arrival of new media era, video works have become one of the main ways people receive information. When the individual memory rises to the collective memory through the media,it will have a positive impact on national identity and cultural identity. From the perspective of the creation of oral historical documentaries, taking the current oral historical documentaries and graduation work "The Glow of Memory" as the research objects, this paper discusses the visualized construction of collective memory by the oral content of the oral historical documentaries. The main content of this paper contains four parts. The first part defines the main concepts like "oral history" and "collective memory",etc. And also sorts out the development of oral historical documentary in China. At the same time,it explains the social significance and value of oral historical documentary. The second part mainly discusses the characteristics and creative feature of oral historical documentaries, including the study of narrative strategies and audiovisual languages. The third part focuses on the impact of oral content on collective memory in the process of visualized communication, from the aspects of "memory-forgetting","the relationship between individual memory and collective memory" and "how to reproduce and reconstruct collective memory".The fourth part studies the problems encountered in practical operation, affected by“the narrator's memory deviation”,“the limitation of image created in time and space” and “subjectivity”,the meaning of oral content cannot be fully presented in the process of visualized transmission. From the above, this paper concludes that in the face of complicated history, oral history documentary should present history as exactly as it was,not judge history. When the documentary creators present the fragmented and incomplete individual memories in front of the audience, they are not asking the audience to verify the authenticity of history, but to reawaken and establish their own cognition of that history through their understanding of the content they watched.
