The "Leader" group is a typical character in Shakespeare's writings. They carry more attention and expectations of society, and their behavior is susceptible to stronger restrictions. Therefore, the depiction of leaders is a prominent outstanding expression to show the contradiction and complexity of characters.Julius Caesar,Antony and Coriolanus are all the military and political leaders in the ancient Roman society. The author uses Plutarch's Parallel lives as the chief source when portraying their characters. The distinctive literary features of Parallel lives provide a source of inspiration for plots and characters in Shakespeare's drama creation. However,Shakespeare's key depiction of the leaders makes Roman drama surpass the core goal of moral education in Plutarch's works, and finally presents it as a humanist masterpiece with the ultimate concern of human-oriented consciousness, which highly unifies the sociality and aesthetics. The purpose of this article is to study what adaptations have been made on Shakespeare's Roman plays Julius Caesar,Anthony and Cleopatra, and Coriolanus' s "Leader" to Plutarch's Parallel lives. There are three parts in this paper: introduction, text and conclusion:The introduction part is an overview of the main part of this paper and the overall grasp of the research situation.First of all,the author will sort out the research situation of this subject at home and abroad, recognize the shortcomings of the current research situation, and try to fill in some gaps in the following articles.Secondly, the author will introduce the significance of this study and explore the value of adaptation between literary works and dramatic texts. Finally, the research methods and innovations of this paper are described to improve the theoretical value of this paper. The text is divided into three chapters:The first chapter explores the relationship between Parallel lives and Shakespeare's view of drama.First, this paper explores the keynote of Shakespeare and Plutarch's works from the dimension of "similarity",.After that, the author analyzes Shakespeare's creative pursuit of "seeking differences",and explores Shakespeare's transcendence of Plutarch from three aspects: plot setting, characters research and language style. The second chapter is Shakespeare's expansion and rewriting of the "Leader" in Parallel lives, which is the main part of this paper. The author will compare and analyze ——Coriolanus,Caesar and Anthony——the three groups of characters in Parallel lives and Shakespeare's Roman plays.Based on the historical facts of Rome in Plutarch's narration, this paper puts the characters in the context of the city-state of Rome at that time, and demonstrates the status of these "Leaders" in Plutarch's judgment. Then, from the perspective of specific dramatic treatment, this paper sorts out and summarizes the characteristics of leader in Shakespeare's writing. The third chapter analyzes the implication of Shakespeare's adaptation of the leader in Parallel lives. This chapter focuses on the internal meaning of Shakespeare's adaptation in Parallel lives. There is no lack of writers' criticism of the current situation in Roman dramas, whose profound sociality is a major feature of the author's creation. But Shakespeare's creation is not limited to this level of expression.Under the dual effects of typical characters and typical environment, the author breaks through the limitations of class and makes the aesthetic characteristics and social characteristics of artistic works reach an organic and integrated situation, thus forming a kind of inclusive and balanced aesthetic feeling. In the conclusion part, the author combs the creative characteristics of Plutarch and Shakespeare again, analyzes the literary characteristics of historical works of Plutarch from the perspective of "being the same",and discusses how the characteristics provide material for the creation of multiple characters in Shakespeare's works. In addition, the author explores Shakespeare's Transcendence of Plutarch's moral education goal from the perspective of "seeking difference",and then excavates Shakespeare's drama ideal based on humanistic concern.
