This is a report on the E-C translation of The Final Report of the Federal Commission on School Safety,excerpted from the Background and Executive Summary.The government report,issued by the U.S.Department of Education,is an informative text.The government report details the recommendations and measures on campus safety from three aspects: prevention,protection and mitigation of injury,respond and recovery,which can assist states and local communities in preventing school violence and improving recovery efforts following an incident.The translation not only plays an essential role in understanding the policy recommendations of school safety,but also provides references for the similar problems of school safety in China.The languages used in government reports are usually rigorous and accurate.Abstract nouns,adverbial phrases and attributive clauses are widely used in the project.Guided by the Skopos theory,the project explores the linguistic features and translation methods of government reports,focused on analyzing the problems encountered in the process of translation and adopting different translation strategies,such as omission,conversion and reconstruction,to achieve the goal of effective translation strategies of informative texts.In addition,the project is aimed at summarizing the translation features and methods of this kind of texts,hoping to provide reference for the similar genre translation in the future.
