On The Limits Of Metaphorical Translation In FORTRESS BESIEGED In Light Of Cognitive Approach

This paper attempts to explore the characteristics and limitations of metaphor translation.When using cognitive translation to translate metaphors in literary texts,many times there will be inaccurate or even mistranslations due to multiple factors Besieged City is the target of this thesis,and its metaphorical mapping and cognitive translation techniques are analyzed.Analyzing the effectiveness of metaphor translation in the English version of Fortress Besieged is from the perspective of source analysis,and combine the two factors of contextual effect and inference effort to evaluate the effect of metaphor translation in the translation,aiming to enrich and deepen the field of metaphor translation Exploration.Although we advertise the importance of translators and are one of the focuses of linguistic translation,we should also realize that according to the translator's one-time experience,or cognitive experience,the translated work is not a true expression of the translator.Emotional works.The book Metaphors We Live By by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson,has changed the traditional view of metaphor.It considers metaphor to be a cognitive tool and a way of thinking.Metaphor translation is also combined with cognitive linguistic theory.It is also a pragmatic phenomenon with words as the focus and context as the framework.It involves linguistic,cultural,social,psychological,and religious aspects Combined with Newmark's metaphorical translation perspective,this article also considers the above factors when analyzing the translation of metaphors in text.It evaluates the validity of the translation and gives opinions by combining the effects of context and mapping.This paper finds that the change of metaphor concept and the introduction of cognitive linguistics in translation can indeed improve the validity of metaphor translation,but it will also have some limitations.This is mainly due to similar metaphors in the target language and the translator's reasoning efforts.
