As the beginning of a class,lead-in is an essential part of connecting classroom teaching and students' learning.As a guiding step for teaching and learning,teachers can carry out all teaching activities as much as possible to attract students' attentions,stimulate their interest in learning,make them know what they want to learn next clearly,form corresponding learning motivation,and build the connection between knowledge.The research at home and abroad mainly explores the role of classroom lead-in.In recent years,the comparative research on novice teachers and proficient teachers is increasing year by year,but the comparative research on the lead-in of new classes between novice teachers and proficient teachers is still less.Therefore,the author focuses on the similarities and differences between novice teachers and proficient teachers in six aspects:frequency,method,duration,resources,contents and subjectivity.By comparing the existing problems of novice and proficient teachers' lead-in of new classes,we find the advantages and disadvantages of novice teachers and proficient teachers in the lead-in of new classes.It gives the chances for them to learn from each other so as to improve the teaching results,and also conducive to the professional progress of novice teachers and proficient teachers themselves.In order to investigate the current situation of novice teachers and proficient teachers in the use of the lead-in of new classes in actual teaching,this paper puts forward the following research questions:1.What features do senior high school proficient English teachers have in common in the lead-in of new English classes?2.What features do senior high school novice English teachers have in common in the lead-in of new English classes?3.What are the similarities and differences between novice and proficient English teachers in the lead-in of new English classes?This article selected 10 English teachers from a middle school in Beijing which uses the high school English textbooks of Beijing Normal University to interview and selected 6 English teachers and 180 students they taught for classroom observations.Using SPSS 19.0 software,the author analyzed the differences and similarities between novice teachers and proficient teachers in the introduction of new English classes.After analyzing the data collected in the study,the results show that firstly,there are no differences between novice teachers and proficient teachers in the diversity,resources and the relevance of the lead-in for new English classes.The novice teachers and the proficient teachers all use various kinds of ways to conduct lead-in activities.The resources for introducing new courses are extensive and the contents of new courses are closely integrated with the teaching contents.Secondly,there are differences between novice teachers and proficient teachers in the lead-in time of new courses.He Feng(2009)mentioned in his book "Diagnosis and Improvement of Skills in Teaching" that the time taken for lead-in should be controlled within 3 to 5 minutes.According to the data from classroom observations,interviews and students' questionnaires,proficient teachers have better control over lead-in time than novice teachers.Thirdly,in terms of the subjectivity of new courses and the sources for new courses,proficient teachers are more mature than novice teachers.Fourthly,in terms of the interest of lead-in contents for new English classes,novice teachers are better than proficient teachers.Fifthly,there is a difference between the novice teachers and the proficient teachers in the frequency of using the new course lead-in methods.According to the results of classroom observations,interviews,and questionnaires,in the actual teaching process,novice teachers tend to use the method of multimedia introduction for new lessons,while experienced teachers choose the method of knowledge introduction more.Based on the results of the study,the author puts forward some suggestions and opinions on the lead-in of new courses for novice teachers,proficient teachers and schools.
