With the rapid development of information technology,the ways of information-related education,such as smart campus,mobile learning and flipping classroom have sprung up rapidly,which is gradually changing the teaching modes of teachers and the learning ways of students.In this background,a multiple of countries around the world are taking part in information-based education so as to improve teaching quality and finally enhance their international competitiveness.In this process,teachers,as an indispensable part of education,play a vital role in the development of information-based education.Therefore,the information-based teaching ability becomes a significant ability in teachers' professional development.At the early days when computers were used in education,some researches about information-based teaching has been done.From ICT to TPACK theory,then to the hottest topic — the integration of information technology and curriculum over the world,most of the studies aimed at college teachers or pre-service teachers.While seldom researches focused on the ability of junior high school teachers.Given that,this research takes junior high school English teachers in Xi'an as the object,aiming to explore the difference in the information-based teaching ability among novice,proficient and expert English teachers.In this research,122 English teachers(including novice,proficient and expert)from Xi'an ordinary junior high schools and key junior high schools were selected as samples to compare the difference of information-based teaching ability among the three types of teachers through questionnaire.Furthermore,six teachers were interviewed to find out the reasons behind,so as to help English teachers of Xi'an junior high schools improve their information-based teaching ability.The results show that:(1)There is no significant difference in informationbased teaching cognitive ability among the three types of junior high school English teachers.(2)Junior high school novice English teachers are superior to proficient and expert teachers in information-based instructional design ability and information-based teaching innovation ability.(3)Junior high school expert English teachers are in the first place in information-based teaching implementation ability,information-based teaching monitoring ability,and information-based teaching research ability.Based on interview,reasons of which are summarized.Firstly,with the connection between information technology and people' s lives as well as the guidance of the government in policy,junior high school English teachers generally believe that it is the trend for teachers to possess information-based teaching ability.As for novice English teachers,they are full of curiosity and not restricted by the fixed teaching mode,so they are more flexible and creative.Compared with proficient and expert teachers,they are more familiar with the operation of information technology equipment.Expert teachers,with extensive experience,have more tactic knowledge.Hence,they are the most capable teachers to control and manage the learning situations,provide guidance for students as well as predict learning-related problems and take measures in advance.At the same time,the mission of undertaking more subject research tasks pushes expert teachers to instantly make progress in this field.While proficient teachers who are in the career transition period may appear job burnout and learning stagnation.
