| Nowadays,English reading proficiency has obviously become one of the necessary abilities for college students.It plays an important role in their examination,research and future work.It can be seen that improving college students’ English reading level is very important to their future life.Some studies have shown that proper English reading strategy training can improve students’ English performance.The purpose of this study is to improve the reading ability and reading achievement of college students in my class through the action research on reading strategy training.This action research takes the non-English major sophomores of a normal university in Anhui Province as the research object.The class taught by the author is the action class of this study.Before the action research,the author first conducted a questionnaire survey on the use of reading strategies and a pretest of reading scores for the students in the class.According to the survey results,the research questions of this action research are as follows:(1)Can reading strategy guidance improve the reading strategy awareness of non-English majors?(2)Can reading strategy guidance improve the reading performance of non-English majors?(3)What are the changes in the correlation between reading strategies and reading achievement before and after reading strategy guidance?In the implementation of action research,the first stage is mainly based on the problems reflected in the pretest data to correct the bad reading habits,cultivate the awareness of using reading strategies and train the specific reading strategies.In the second stage,according to the reflection after the first stage,students are trained to analyze the text and use the strategies correctly.In the third stage,according to the reflection of the first two stages,the students’ ability of using reading strategies is strengthened.At last,the post test of reading strategy and reading achievement is carried out to check the training effect.At the end of the action research,by comparing the students’ scores before and after the test,we found that students’ awareness of using reading strategies and reading performance have been significantly improved.At the same time,in the results of interviews with students,it is found that students’ bad habits in reading have been greatly corrected,and their confidence in English learning has been greatly improved.It shows that the action research has achieved its goal.In addition,this action research also has the corresponding teaching enlightenment function in English reading teaching. |
