Oil is closely related to people's daily life and plays an important role in energy consumption.However,in recent years,the impact of petroleum industry on the environment is becoming more and more serious,therefore,the effective utilization of resources and environmental protection have attracted more and more attention of all countries.Therefore,in order to comprehend the global oil and environmental problems,a large number of multilingual texts are needed for countries to study.So there is a great need for such translators.This thesis is a translation report about Petroleum and the Environment(Excerpted)which introduces the information of many environmental considerations associated with oil and gas exploration,production,processing,refining,transportation,and use.Through the analysis of the original text,the author finds that the original text has some similarities with the scientific and technological text,so it has typical characteristics in terms of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.Moreover,the application of functional equivalence theory can realize the accurate transmission of the information between the source and target readers.Therefore,the author analyzes the lexical,syntactic and textual features of Petroleum English,and then discusses the translation techniques of Petroleum English from the perspective of lexical,syntactic and textual equivalence under the guidance of functional equivalence theory through case study.On lexical level,the effectiveness of professional dictionary,parallel texts and the context of the original text for the terms translation of Petroleum English is discussed;on syntactic level,the effectiveness of addition,conversion,reversing and division for sentence translation of Petroleum English is summarized;on textual level,the techniques of substitution and repetition are effective in realizing the cohesion and coherence of the text..The author hopes that this translation practice report can provide a reference for text translation in related fields.
