A Study Of Time And Space Narrative In Christopher Nolan's Films

Christopher Nolan is one of the most famous directors in Hollywood.His films are very personal,and he is good at constructing different story fields through the combination of time narrative and space narrative.In this paper,nine films directed by Christopher Nolan are taken as the research objects.From the perspective of time and space narrative,the films directed by Christopher Nolan are analyzed and combed,trying to enrich the research results of director Christopher Nolan.The main body of this paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter defines the concept of time and space narrative,includes its development and evolution in the process of film creation,and briefly summarizes the creative experience of Christopher Nolan.The second chapter studies the construction of space-time narrative in Christopher Nolan's films,which is based on the two dimensions of "story" and "discourse".It holds that the construction of "story" is based on the scaling of physical time and the stacking of space,the distortion of psychological time and the virtual reality of space.In "discourse",the construction is based on the intersection of multiple lines,rings and layers of space and time.The third chapter studies the function of time and space narrative of Christopher Nolan's films,which is analyzed from the aspects of giving uncertainty to characters,promoting the development of plots and strengthening the function of time and space metaphor.The fourth chapter studies the enlightenment and limitations of Christopher Nolan's film time-space narrative,and holds that time-space narrative has some enlightenment to the film creators in innovating the film story mode,grasping the balance between tradition and innovation,and changing the audience's viewing habits,but it also needs to pay attention to the lack of new ideas in form,the lack of rationality in logic,and the difficulty in audience's understanding.
