Derivative word-formation is one of the basic word-formation methods of language.Chinese and Arabic word formation have both similarities and differences.The main word formation method in Arabic is the derivative word-formation.Although derivative word-formation is not the main body of Chinese word-formation,but it has played a significant role in the derivation of Chinese vocabulary in recent years,The proportion of derivative words in Chinese vocabulary is gradually increasing,the range of derivative words is also growing,and the social and cultural role of derivative words is becoming more and more important.Therefore,discussing Chinese teaching from the perspective of derived word formation has a certain theoretical and practical significance.And for foreign students(especially Arab students)whose mother tongue already has a derivation system,the research value of Chinese derivation word-formation and derivation teaching is even greater.This thesis focuses on the derivative word-formation.It studies Chinese word-formation,Chinese derivative word-formation and the characteristics of Chinese derivative words.At the same time,it studies Arabic derivative word-formation and the characteristics of derivative words.On this basis,it attempts to analyze the role of derivative word-formation in the two languages and find out the similarities and differences between them.the main differences between Chinese and Arabic derived words are reflected in three aspects.First,the constituent elements of derived words are different;second,the proportion of derivative words is not the same;third,the degree of closeness of the derived words is different.On this basis,some reasonable suggestions are put forward for Arabic students’ Chinese teaching and learning of Chinese culture.The suggestions put forward in this paper mainly focus on teaching Chinese as a foreign language with the help of derivative words,Chinese word groups and the culture related to the derived words.It is hoped that the suggestions in this paper will help Arab students and even other foreign students learning Chinese to grasp Chinese vocabulary more easily,expand their vocabulary,understand the social and cultural connotation of derivative words,and master Chinese and Chinese culture better.
