Research On The Alternative Marker Of Modern Chinese

The Chinese discourse marker theory is in a period of vigorous development in our country.Many scholars are engaged in relevant research.The alternative marker,as a genre of discourse markers,attracted scholars' attention earlier.The alternative marker is great singnificance in Chinese and the study of discourse markers.Researching of the alternative marker started early,but most only focused on some single marker or on case studies.There are few systematic and comprehensive studies on the alternative marker.The systematic study of the alternative marker will promote the development of the discourse marker theory and important theoretical value for the practical application,help for teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.This paper will use the methods of description and explanation,then make a comprehensive and systematic study on the alternative marker by qualitative analysis and quantitative analsis.This text is divided into six parts,the second chapter and the third chapter are the focal points of this paper.The second chapter mainly analyzes and sums up the semantic relationship between the front and the back items according to the semantic category which connectes by the the alternative marker.The third chapter describes and research pragmatic functions of the alternative marker in disciurse expression.The first part is the intorduction part,which briefly summarizes the research status of the alternative marker.This part focuses on the introdution of the research results of the alternative marker.The researching history of the alternative marker is long,but most studies have been carried out on individual alternative marker,without forming complete and systematic result.The significance and value of this paper lie in the systematic research of the alternative marker,so as to have an overall understanding of it.The first chapter is the overviwe of the alternative marker.This chapter is divided into four sections.The frist section mainly defines the alternative marker fromgrammatical form,semantic function and pragmatic function.In the second section,quantitative analsis is made on the data to observe its actual use in modern Chinese.The third section and the four section start with grammatical forms.The third section divides the alternative marker into “Shuo”class,”Yan”class and “Ji”class by their structural types.The four section divides two types by the perspective of distribution characteristics,one located and immediately adjacent to the front item and the back item,the other one located in the middle of the discourse and is away from the back item.The second chapter analyzes the semantic relations between the front items and the back items.According to the description and analysis of a large number of sentences,semantic categories beweent the front item and the back item are classified and explained.It is mainly divided into equivalent relation,inclusion relation,intersection relation and separation relation by analyzing the rang of the semantic.Then classifing and introducing the interpretatio relation,causation relation and progressive relation according to the logical relationship which are connected by the alternative marker in the text.The third chapter introduces the pragmatic functions of the alternative marker.Based on the theory of discourse structure and the theory of information structure,this paper divides pragmatic functions into four categories:keeping topic function,interchanging topic function,supplementing information function and correcting information function.The fourth chapter is the data analysis and comparison of the semantic functions and pragmatic functions of the alternative marker.Through a large number data analysis of the alternative marker,we find the individuality and tendy of the alternative marker in the semantic functions and pragmatic functions,and they are inconsistent.The last part is the conclusion.The conclusion gives a detailed description of the findings of the alternative marker,so as to illustrate the complexity of the alternativemarker by their systematic and comprehensive conclusion.
