Correlation Study Of The Vocabulary Knowledge,Autonomous Learning Ability And TEM 4 Achievement Of English Majors | | Posted on:2020-06-28 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:J Wang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2415330602964296 | Subject:Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Recently,people begin to take much notice to the research of learner autonomy and vocabulary knowledge which play very important role in English learning.There is no doubt that vocabulary is the basic factor in language learning and students’ autonomy also lasts through their whole learning process,which seems to be the goal for teachers and learners.Scholars researched in the field of English vocabulary and learner autonomy from different aspects.The purpose of this study is to reveal the correlation among the three factors of vocabulary knowledge,autonomous learning and TEM 4 achievements,and the predictability of vocabulary knowledge and autonomous learning ability to TEM 4 achievement.The study was conducted with a quantitative research methodology.Research subjects were 113 junior students of English major from Tianjin University of Science&Technology who have already taken part in the TEM 4.In this study,the research data were collected through the instruments of a questionnaire,two test papers and TEM 4 scores of the subjects.The research questions were as follows:1.What are the situations of vocabulary knowledge and autonomous learning ability of the English majors?2.What are the pairwise correlations of vocabulary knowledge,autonomous learning ability and TEM 4 achievement of the English majors?3.What is the multidimensional relationship of vocabulary knowledge,autonomous learning ability and TEM 4 achievement of the English majors?The major findings of this research are shown in the following:The breadth of vocabulary knowledge of the English majors does not meet the requirement of the National English Teaching Syllabus for English Majors and the students’autonomous learning ability is in the middle level on the whole.There is a significant positive correlation between students’ vocabulary knowledge and their TEM 4 achievement;there is a significant positive correlation between the overall autonomous learning ability and TEM 4 achievement.The students’ vocabulary knowledge and their overall autonomous learning ability have a significant predictive effect on their English achievements.In the five dimensions of autonomous learning ability,the dimension of "monitoring and assessing English learning process" has a significant predictive effect on the English achievement.The research findings are significant both in theory and practice.They are of importance to enrich the autonomous learning theory and provide implications for students of English major to improve their TEM 4 scores in some degree and propound teachers’English teaching. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | vocabulary knowledge, autonomous learning ability, TEM 4 achievement, correlation study | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
