J.Hillis Miller(1928-)is a famous American literary critic and an important representative of "Yale Critics" deconstruction. In his two books,"Fiction and Repetition" and "Reading Narrative",he focused on his deconstructionist narrative theory, centering on the "repetition" theory and "line" view, disintegrating the unity and authority of the text, revealing the text Heterogeneous dimension, showing the infinite possibilities of text with theory and practice, his deconstructionist narrative theory has caused extensive and profound influence worldwide.A systematic study of Hillis Miller’s deconstructionist narrative theory is of great significance to the sustainable development of contemporary Chinese literary theory. This article mainly expounds and analyzes Hillis Miller’s deconstructionist narrative theory from the following parts. The thesis is divided into the following sections:Introduction Under the prevailing current situation of external text research,Miller ’ s deconstructionist narrative theory has always been based on the heterogeneity of texts, subverting the traditional metaphysical logoscentrism and giving infinite space for text interpretation;at the same time,he also gave texts Sufficient status to deny hegemonism of external research.Previous research on Hillis Miller has focused on repetition or other parts of the point of view, and its research is still scattered. This is the current review, analysis and research of Hillis Miller’s deconstructionist narrative theory.Important reasons, and the heterogeneous arguments in the repetition and line theory are of reference significance to the criticism of contemporary Chinese literary theory. One,Origins of Miller’s deconstructive narrative theory Miller’s deconstructive narrative theory is based on the characteristics of the text’s discourse level, focuses on the rhetoric of the language, and displays the complexity and polysemy of the text’s discourse level through the concept of repetition.Based on the structure of the text itself, focusing on narrative logic, the traditional narrative view represented by Aristotle is deconstructed through the "line view".Its overall theory is based on the concept of linguistic signs of post-structuralists such as Derrida, and focuses on the heterogeneity of texts, thereby breaking the barriers of traditional Logosian metaphysics.Second, the narrative theory of repetition through the analysis of seven Victorian novels,Miller pointed out that there are three different sizes, two different forms and three different functions in the text, these repetitions bring a rich interpretation of the meaning of the text It is a sharp blade that breaks the cage of one-dimensional interpretation.Through the repetitiveness of the text language, you can find the disorder, confusion and even contradictory factors behind the seemingly ordered and complete story.Third, line theory of narrative theory In Interpreting Narrative,Miller started a dialogue with narratologist Genette. From Miller’s point of view, the idea that Genette hopes to logically sort out the narrative lines through a series of terms such as "backstory, provincial narrative, metanarrative" is impossible.Because the real world is first woven by language, any language subject must first be used in a specific language system.Language not only has the function of signified, but also the function of signifier. It is contradictory, plural, and ambiguous.Text written in a language is also ambiguous.Starting from a macro perspective,Miller deconstructed Aristotle’s views on the completeness and logic of the storyline.Miller pointed out that there is no absolute beginning and end of any text, and the middle part of the event is definitely not completely logical. In Miller’s view, the meaning of language is ambiguous and mobile, and the text written by language must also be ambiguous.Miller emphasized that literary criticism should focus on the status of textual language, which is still of reference significance in contemporary China.Of course,he does not deny the influence of external factors such as author and historical context on the text.He denies the decisive role of external factors. He opposes the critics’ interpretation of the text in a "historical" illusion.Recognize the difference between linguistic reality and material reality, and give the text its due status. Conclusion Miller’s deconstructionist narrative theory of literary heterogeneity brings endless possibilities to the interpretation of texts, but language symbols are still manufactured by and served by language subjects, and they are separated from the symbols of language subjects It doesn’t make sense. If we look at the form in which the subject of language is actually used tocommunicate ideology, language is clear and unambiguous. From this point of view,Miller’s excavation of heterogeneity neglected to some extent the homogeneity of literature and the practicality of language.
