The Effect Of The Differences In Thought Pattern On Interpreters In C-E Consecutive Interpreting And Countermeasures

Nowadays,with the international exchanges and cooperation in various fields of the world,interpreting,as a cross-linguistic speech act,plays a pivotal role in the progress of world civilization and human development.Due to the influence of many factors such as nationality,religion,philosophy,habit and art,there are a lot of differences in thought patterns between different countries and nations,which make interpreters face great obstacles and difficulties in their work.Therefore,in addition to overcome the psychological barriers in interpreting activities,the conversion of thought pattern is also the key to finish this interpreting successfully.However,culture and language are two necessary elements that should be taken into consideration when discussing about thought patterns.The thought patterns of Chinese thought pattern and English thought pattern have many manifestations in cultures and languages respectively.Chinese thought pattern attaches great importance to unity,and the interrelationship among things.On the contrary,Westerners pay more attention to a single individual and attach importance to logic and analysis.Till now,many English learners in China still habitually think with their Chinese thought pattern in their English expressions,and this causes a certain degree of misunderstanding and confusion to the native English speaker.Therefore,it is difficult for interpreters to accurately convey the meaning of the source language.In this study,combining with certain research methods,the author adopts the French Interpretive Theory as a guide and manages to explore the effects of different thought patterns on interpreters in the process of Chinese-English consecutive interpreting.And the author puts forward a series of coping strategies,such as deverbalization,sentence restructuring and conjunction transformation.With the helps of these ways,the interpreter is able to accurately grasp the differences between different thought patterns in the process of interpreting,and to carry out accurate,smooth and natural interpreting.In short,based on the theory,and combined with a large number of examples from 2019 Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Speech in Press Conference of Two Sessions,the author tries to interpret the differences in thought patterns in Chinese and English consecutive interpreting,and to propose a series of countermeasures.The Speech is a very typical one to be an example for the analysis of the differences on thought patterns,because there are clear characteristics of Chinese in his speech.Although the differences of thought patterns have brought many negative effects on interpreters in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting,through a series of methods,the negative effects in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting will be reduced.
