The novel,Frog has caused a great sensation after it was formally published in 2009,in which the hardship of "Life" and the dilemma of "Fertility" were depicted, regarding the performance and introspection of Chinese fertility history and population policy as central themes.Correspondingly, researches on the novel Frog have gained in popularity since the author won the Nobel Prize in 2012 and the English version published in 2014.But the previous studies mainly focused on the exploration to the portrayal of the cultural images,cultural-loaded words as well as dialects almost being ignorant of the political backgrounds it was rooted in that directly led to an absence of comprehensive and well-considered attitude on the evaluation of the target text.On the basis of shortages mentioned above, the author attempted to probe into the essence of the source text and took the influencing factors into consideration as many as possible before making a judgment of the translation quality. The thesis put emphasis on the analysis of the translation of political discourse through a contrastive study between the source and target text in which the research method of qualitative analysis in combination with quantitative analysis was applied in the discussion of political words and sentences with the purpose of making a conclusion of the translation strategies and further reference for future research under the guidance of the hermeneutic translation theory. It mainly contains four parts in the process of text analysis, including the analysis of political words and phrases, analysis of political sentences and expressions, summary of translation discrepancies and misunderstandings and discussions of acceptance as well as cross-cultural communications. The major findings being listed in the statistical table in the conclusion part indicated that flexible strategies and methods were applied in response to various contextual implications, among which the foreignization was preferred in the translation of political discourse in comparison to domestication while literal translation occupied a larger proportion than others. To be specific, the properties of political expression and reader acceptance accounted for the selections of translation strategies and methods for better understanding. The thesis has offered a panoramic view of the translation with regard to policies and historical events as explicate as possible with the ultimate aims of promoting interactive cross-cultural communication and diplomatic development through a general knowledge of historical backgrounds and national policies which are of paramount importance in modern society.
