With the implementation and popularization of the new high school English curriculum standards nationwide,the state has put forward higher requirements for high school English teachers.Teachers are the key to the new curriculum reform and the key to the success of the reform.Therefore,research on the professional development of English teachers in high schools has become very important.This study takes English teachers in three high schools in Tongliao as the research object,and focuses on the development of teachers' professional competence.The purpose of this article is to investigate the status quo of the professional development of teachers in these three high schools,in order to find out the existing problems,and further propose countermeasures to improve this status.A total of 87 high school teachers participated in the survey in the questionnaire of this study,and the survey data was analyzed using SPSS 19.0 software.According to the analysis of the survey results,it is found that there are serious imbalances in the ratio of male and female English teachers in the region's high school,a shortage of expert teachers,and unclear goals for their professional development.Aiming at the existing problems,this article puts forward suggestions for solving the problems through practice and exploration,including:policy support by local.education departments,creating a good environment for professional development of teachers,organizing school-based teaching and research activities,and improving teachers' professional quality.At the same time,the article also points out that teachers themselves need to improve their awareness of professional ability development,constantly reflect on their teaching,actively participate in education and teaching research,and promote professional development.
