With the emergence of on-going "mandarin fever",there is an increasing number and enriching variety of Chinese textbooks which can basically meet the needs of Chinese teaching and learning but facing many challenges and problems.From the outside,the diversity and complexity of Chinese learners has made a new demand on the textbooks.Internally,Exercise,as an important component of textbook,has not been given enough attention.In this circumstances,it is believed that the " Secondary Development" of Exercises based on students needs is the best way to solve the current problems.Whereas the relevant theoretical research lacks attention,which makes this issue has stronger practical significance.For feasibility and convenience,this paper selects the classical advanced Chinese intensive reading textbooks,Boya Chinese Advanced Soaring Chapter 1 as the object of analysis.The essay concerns itself with three aspects including the accounts,types and arrangement of exercise.Firstly,this paper summarizes the characteristic of exercises by comprehensive and systematical text analysis Afterwards,a questionnaire is administrated to analyze the students needs.Finally,it discuss the principles and methods of the exercises secondary development so as to provide theories and methods in practice.The full text including seven chapters:Chapter I introduce the genesis and significance of the thesis.In Chapter II,it review the relevant theoretical basis and research,and then defined two important concepts:Needs Analysis and Secondary Development.Chapter III introduce the research objects and approaches.Chapter ?summarizes the characteristic of exercises from three aspects:accounts,types and arrangement by text analysis.Chapter V give the process of investigation and analysis of Malaysian Students needs in detail.Based on the above two chapters,the first part of Chapter VI demonstrate the methods of " Secondary Development" of Exercises in the case of Lesson 1.For the second part in this chapter,the principles and suggestions are proposed.Specifically,the principles include:1.As for the accounts of exercise,the superabundant exercises can be settled by number decreases and functional changes.2.For the types of exercise,it is suggested to work on the fluency by increasing exercises about structure,to provide support for the difficulties in the exercise and to endow the exercises with features of times.3.For the arrangement of exercise,exercises in and after class should be differentiate,the logic and sequence should be taken into consideration as well.The last chapter reviews and summarizes the full text,points out the innovation and deficiency of this paper and presents the prospect of future.
