The Study Of Narrative Space In Li Yu's Novels

The script for story-telling developed into a prosperous state in the Ming dynasty,many literati devoted themselves to it under the guidance of Feng Menglong and others.Li Yu,a famous writer in the literary world in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty,making a great attainment in opera creation and theoretical research.He also participated in the creation when he lived in Hangzhou,and his works are mainly collected in the Silent Drama and Twelve Towers.The artistic aesthetics of drama is more three-dimensional and intuitive than that of the novel.The script for story-telling of Li Yu are greatly influenced by his dramatic theory.displaying a strong sense of space in the narrative.Through the special allocation of the Chinese classical space,Li Yu produce something innovative to echo his pursuit of novelty.In the paper I plans to launch the study from the space perspective.introducing the three narrative spaces.that is,the real space,the surreal space,the storytelling space in Li Yu's novels,and analyzing their characteristics respectively.In the introduction,I briefly introduce Li Yu and his creation of script for story-telling.The narrative space in Li Yu's script for story-telling works and the literature review of this related study are also involved in this section.The first chapter focuses on the real narrative space,which play an important role in Li Yu's works.By analyzing four realistic scenes,that is houses,gardens,temples,and courts,which appear more frequently in his writing to explore his renovation of commen space.And in this section,l also make a thorough inquiry how the horizontal dual space and vertical inclusio space commonly used by Li Yu are constructed and what kind of effect has it produced in the real narrative space.The second chapter focuses on the surreal narrative space,which as an auxiliary part in Li Yu's works.Through the analysis of dream,spirits and stage,Li Yu's pursuit of novelty also can be seen in this part.In supporting the realistic narration,surreal space mainly undertakes the task of adjusting the narrative from another level.And with the help of surrealistic,Li Yu strengthened the educational significance of comedy that was not serious original.The third chapter focuses on the storytelling space.which beyond the narrative part.This spatial properties is given by the form of script for story-telling.Here we mainly talked about Li Yu's great innovation in the structure of the script for story-telling on the one hand,which makes the system becomes more coherent from single to the whole.On the other hand,we also analyzes Li Yu's personal feelings added to the works through his critical words in the process of taking on the role of story teller,reflecting the script for story-telling are gradually influenced by literati.
