Study In Tannishou's Thought

Tannishou is a classic work of Joudoshinshuu Buddhism,and has a profound influence on Japanese Buddhism and thought.After combing the context with the help of existing researches and explaining the logical relationships through the article by analysis,my thesis draws a conclusion that the main idea of Tannishou is the supremacy of "the principle of absolute other-force",and then exhibits a "tentacle logic structure".From the perspective of the text structure,the full text of Tannishou can be divided into three parts:"Shikunhen","Tannihen" and "Mitu no jo".The first part primarily demonstrates Shinran's principle that the "absolute other-force" is supreme without embellishment while the second part manifests this principle by refuting the wrong viewpoints.And the last part respectively elaborates the main purpose of this article,the relationship between the first and second part and the situation of Shinran during his exile.Turning to the sight of the topics the article discussed,the.whole text can also be divided into three major themes.Number one is the absolute other-force.This theme mainly shows the supremacy of this rule from all sides.And then "Akunin Seiki",the one mainly talks about the concepts of "evil" and "evil person" which closely related to the "absolute other-force" principle,besides,it explains the reason why we should believe in this principle.The last theme is the different paths for saint people and others who are ordinary.This one mainly explains the difference between "Seidou" and"joudo" and confirms the available range of "the principle of absolute other-force".The whole text surrounds only one core idea---the supremacy of "absolute other-force" belief.Whether the three components or the three themes of the text merely discuss this belief in different ways.Tannishou uses "the principle of absolute other-force" counters some common senses like the pursuing of kindness or self-reliance by demonstrating this principle in different problem domains which have no specific logical relationships among them.By breaking these common senses,it highlights the supremacy of this principle.So,the logical structure of Tannishou is a kind of "tentacle style".This structure shows the textual features of Tannishou's daily quotation style.Finally,my thesis attempts to present the important impact of Tannishou on the Joudoshinshuu,and then on Japanese thought,culture and history.This text not only became the important "Okusho" of Joudoshinshuu,plays a crucial role in modeling the thought of Joudoshinshuu and reviving the Joudoshinshuu,but also influenced Japaness history significantly through some iconic events like"Ikkou ikki","The Ishiyama Hongan-ji War",missionary policy in Japan and the"Juugunsou".This thesis reveals the logical structure and core ideas of Tannishou.On this basis,it finds the answers of specific and important questions like the long-disputed "Akunin Seiki".
