An Analysis Of Court Simultaneous Interpreting From Schema Perspective Based On The Public Hearing Of Sun Yang Case

In the study of interpreting,schema theory is used to demonstrate the process of listening and comprehension of source language and output of target language.With the increase of foreign cases in various countries,simultaneous interpreting,as a kind of court interpreting,has gradually been applied in courts involving foreigners.Court interpreting is essential to ensure judicial justice.Whether it can accurately and objectively convey the voices of all participants decides the progress of the trial.Some studies have been conducted on schema's impact on interpreting and court interpreting respectively,but rarely have scholars made a combined research about schema's role in court simultaneous interpreting.In this thesis,we set the focus on the court interpreter's insufficient performance during the CAS's public hearing for WADA's appeal against swimmer Sun Yang and FINA through scenario analyzing method.It is found that,the misinterpreting,missing parts and the inadequate use of interpreting skills by the simultaneous interpreter in the court made it impossible for the parties to receive the original information accurately.At the same time,without the pre-investigation of the case and the familiarity of the legal terms and fixed expressions,the interpreter had many problems in conveying the intentions of all parties involved in the trial,which got the hearing in stuck for several times.From the perspective of background schema,we analyze the interpreter's improper expression and insufficient performance during the hearing,and puts forward corresponding suggestions on legal language and interrogative sentence's interpreting,and the background knowledge acquiring of the case,as well as the complementarity of different schemata,which will help the interpreter build a psychological framework,distribute attention reasonably,and enhance the accuracy of expression.This will ensure the smooth communication between all parties in the court,and provide reference for later court simultaneous interpreters in similar tasks to get better performance.
