In recent years,deepening of economic globalization led to the increase in exchanges between countries in film and television industry.Nowadays many states share with one another their experience of technological aspects of film-making industry as well As of shooting outstanding movies.The cooperation made it possible for a lot of famous directors and actors to work in a wider range of projects abroad.Both China and Ukraine are rising stars of film-making industry and it is a very important development period for the countries,moreover their market potential has surpassed the one of traditional developed countries.The film industry has gradually become one of the main driving forces for the development of the market economy between the two countries.But there exist some problems as well.Looking at some of them,we can claim that there are common ones for both of the states,namely,some disadvantages in usage of film-making technology and ignoring the artistic value of a film.Looking back at the silent film era,although there was no sound and other advanced technologies,But excellent works were constantly emerging.We believe that silent films have a lot of benefits,such as scripts selection or perfect work of directors and actors.Without any doubts,modern film-making industry should learn from and adopt this valuable experience.China and Ukraine established diplomatic relations in the late XX century,but the friendship between two counties has even longer history.A comparative study of the silent films of the two countries has a strong practical significance for the cultural exchanges between China and Ukraine as well as for the development of the current film industry in both countries.This paper compares the origin,development and aesthetic characteristics of silent films in China and Ukraine,and analyzes the similarities and differences of theessence of silent films in China and Ukraine.The second part of the dissertation describes the beginning of the pre-silent films and compares technological aspects as well as social activities of the period.We also focused our attention on some cultural differences in the process of film localization in the two countries.As a brand new thing,silent films emerged when the countries were on the road of nationalization development.The third part of the paper focuses on of the first silent movies of the two countries,their development,peak and decline.The fourth part deals with the creative part of the movies,namely with their subject theme,cultural choices and aesthetic values of the both countries.The purpose of this dissertation is to carry out a comparative study on Chinese and Ukrainian silent films.Our aim is to find the common factors in the development of silent films of the two countries,to provide reference for the development of contemporary films of the two countries,and to call on the modern film creators to pay more attention on the artistic part of a movie.We also want to deepen the cultural exchange between China and Ukraine through the comparison of cultural and aesthetic choices and reduce cultural conflicts in the modern film selection,as well as enhance understanding of international cooperation in the film-making industry in order to achieve some benefits for both of the countries.Thirdly,through the comparative study of the development history of silent films in the two countries,our thesis can contribute to further academic research and theoretical works on the history of silent films in China and Ukraine.
