The Process Of Meaning Transmission In Interpreting

With the development of economic globalization and economic and cultural interactions,there are more and more cultural exchanges among countries,and artistic communication and studies are becoming increasingly important.Interpreting plays an important role in intercultural communication.In order to facilitate communication,interpreters need to get rid of the form of the source language,grasp the essence and key information of the discourse,and establish effective communication.Therefore,meaning transmission is the core of interpretation.It is of great theoretical and practical significance to explore the process of meaning transmission,which can point out the direction for the development of interpreters.Taking some parts of the open course of Harvard University: The Architectural Imagination as examples and based on consecutive interpreting,this interpreting report analyzed the process of meaning transmission.Through this interpreting practice,analysis of the process of meaning transmission in interpreting activities receives priority.It is intended to identify the interpreter’s problems in meaning extraction,meaning expression and offer solutions to these problems.With some cases,meaning extraction is analyzed from the two aspects of meaning identification and meaning prediction,and the logicalization of meaning is explained in part of meaning expression.Some strategies adopted in the progress are summarized,such as: omission,amplification,restructuring and conversion.In consecutive interpreting,understanding the process of meaning transmission will help interpreters to choose appropriate strategies and improve their own translation skills.It is hoped that this report can provide some reference for the relevant interpreting practice.
