Advancement of globalization and informatization bring about an unprecedent opportunity and challenge to translation industry.Obviously human translation can no longer meet the demand,so lots of companies and researchers input great amount of resources to develop machine translation(MT)to aid or replace human translation.MT at present still cannot reach the level of HT,and the work mode of post-editing,as a bridge to link MT and HT,came into being.By far, there are many researches on the quality of HT and PE.However, few of them have considered a special translator group—translation leaners, who have not reached an advanced level or even standard level of translation. So,I invited ten MTI students to do an experiment to study the differences in the qualities of HT and PE by translation learners, and the assessment was done with ATA(American Translation Association)rating system. The result shows that,in terms of accuracy, the quality of post-edited translation is better than human translation, and in terms of fluency, the quality of post-edited translation is no worse than human translation. Moreover,in the experiment,I found that PE costs no less time than human translation, which is in contrast with the common view that post-editing is a faster way than human translation.Besides, based on the findings through this experiment, this paper gives some suggestions on the PE teaching at universities in China.
