On The Banquet Poetry Of The Book Of Songs And The Rites And Music System Of Zhou Dynasty

The music civilization of Zhou dynasty nourished the history background of The Book of Song.The political system,religion,culture and social lives at that period exerted great influence on the creation and emergence of The Book of Songs.The core of political civilization of Zhou dynasty is to continue its development by taking "li" as its link in which Banquet Poetry was the most brightest part,was very important in the whole Zhou ritual system and played a significant role in maintaining feudal regime.The political and culture of Zhou dynasty characterized ritual culture with "li" as its core among which banquet etiquettes held the balance in Zhou society.As we all know,social lives can be always demonstrated in literary works in the form of art.Therefore,ritual culture and spirits can be easily found in those poetrys describing foods and drinking in The Book of Songs.As the banquet poetry in The Book of Songs were the historical records to analyze the rites of Zhou of Banquet Poetry of The Book of Songs and analysis the relations between Zhou dynasty and Banquet Poetry.The research starts from the splendid Zhou rites,focuses on the emergence of Zhou rites,the nature of ceremony and the origins of the rites,the poetry,musics and rites eventually became harmony,unity and supplementary to each other.The people of Zhou dynasty used poetrys in their musics.They sang with songs.Moreover,"poetrys and musics" were supplementary and interworked to each other thus jointly constituted the ritual system of Zhou dynasty.And therefore,Banquet Poetry came into being and had close relationship with rite system.Conveying the spirits connotation " seeking harmonious and happiness through banqutes" that is contained in Zhou rites in feast generally embodied in the following two aspects:One is in patriarchal system.Banquet etiquette consolidated the patriarchal order featuring social class differences to enhance the unite and stability of the inside of the clan.The other is in moral and value system.Banquet etiquette embodied that the Zhou dynasty respected rites and cultivated morality and reflected that the Zhou people pursued politeness and kindness and that they were modesty and righteous.It also showed that the Zhou people were rigorous and self-disciplined to their morals,which mirrored the brilliant liberating view of life of Zhou people.
