| An effective English translation of Chinese online corporate information,in particular company website information,is important for international promotion of Chinese companies.In the author’s research,based on a case study of an English translation project regarding a Chinese company website completed by the author during her MTI studies,an effective translation of corporate information is defined as one that effectively delivers the intended information and purpose in the source text and that is well accepted by target English readers.This paper discusses strategies for effective delivery of information in English translation of Chinese corporate information,including online business profiles,with a focus on properly translating professional terms of medical devices and molds,phrase-based slogans,illogical sentences,and redundant wordings contained in the source text.The author finds from her practical work on the translation project discussed in this paper that an effective delivery of the Chinese company website information in the English translation requires much more than a word-to-word rendering.Translators can make use of parallel texts such as those available on official websites of medical devices companies in English speaking countries and related Wikipedia entries for proper English expressions of professional terms.In translating Chinese phrase-based slogans into English,translators need to work out the logical relations between the words that may not be as explicit or obvious in Chinese as in English,and that may not make sense in the same way in the source and target languages.By changing sentence logic and restructuring the source text,translators can work out a sentence that can be well accepted by target English readers.They can decide whether some contents of the source text is redundant by valuing English readers’ need of information,and deliver the intended information contained in the redundant contents.It is hoped that the translation strategies concluded in this paper will serve as possible solutions for translation of company websites. |
