As more Chinese businesses expand their presence across the globe,they are hiring an increasing number of foreign employees.To better understand what their employees are thinking about the company culture,strategy and policy,many Chinese multinationals regularly conduct employee surveys in its overseas locations.High-quality English translations of such surveys would be quite important for them.This thesis makes a brief analysis of the problems that the translator encountered while translating a set of employee survey questions prepared by one company.Three solutions are then presented:(a)keeping the focus consistent;(b)choosing neutral languages to make the questions straightforward and clear;(c)sticking to the purpose for which the questions are designed to eliminate ambiguity seen in the Chinese.Through analyzing specific examples and presenting possible solutions,the author wishes this thesis would offer some reference to the translation of similar materials. |
