Under the background of the dominance of the ‘type culture' today,the book form design tends to be monotonous and tedious today.In addition,with the development of online books and electronic books,people are more indulged in the illusory feeling created in the era of digital high-tech,but pay less attention to printed books.How to raise people's attention to book form design? How to innovate book form design so as to control the future direction of design development? These have become urgent problems recently.Researchers have made great progress in bookbinding and technology,and in order to solve the above problems further,this thesis takes the book form design and the material language thinking as the entry point to make a further discussion in terms of the establishment and application of material language thinking,the development and evolution of it,material selection principles,the relationship between material language and printing technology,and the future development direction six aspects.With the combination of the literature reference method and demonstration method,the author collects some outstanding representative works in the field of book form design,classifies and sorts them out firstly,then the importance of material language in book form design is particularly elaborated with the aim of working out the problem that material language is not clearly positioned and is easy to be ignored in book form design,as well as exploring designer's controlling and application of material language language.It can be concluded that designers express books effectively by presenting the character and characteristics of different materials,and explore the development direction of book form design at the level of diversification and innovation.
