English reading is a very significant part in students' English learning,so to improve students' English reading ability is a difficult part that many English teachers are facing face in the teaching process.According to the English New Curriculum Standards(2017),English teaching in senior middle school should even more focus on cultivating students' learning interest and reading skills.Therefore,the author tries to explore another teaching model which is the scaffolding teaching model.The scaffolding teaching model is based on the students' “zone of proximal development”(the difference between the current level and the potential level of development)to select appropriate teaching contents to establish a connection between the new knowledge and the previous knowledge,and to improve students' participation in the classroom.This researcher applies the scaffolding teaching model to English reading teaching in senior middle school.The purpose is to explore the impact of the scaffolding teaching model on students' reading scores,reading interests and reading strategies.The author selects two classes of grade two in Fencheng senior middle school as the research subjects,class 1 being the experimental class and class 2 being the control class.The scaffolding teaching model is applied in the experimental class which takes the students as the center of the main body.Through building the scaffolds,entering the scene,exploring questions independently,learning cooperatively and evaluating the effects,the students are able to actively construct the meaning of knowledge.The traditional teaching model is adopted in the control class that is dominated by teachers' explanation.By using test,questionnaire and interview as the research instruments in the thesis,the researcher does key research to the application of the scaffolding teaching model to English reading in senior middle school.The study tries to answer the following research questions: 1)How can the students' reading scores be improved with the help of the scaffolding teaching model? 2)How can the students' reading interest be enhanced with the help of the scaffolding teaching model? 3)What positive effects does the scaffolding teaching model have on the students' English reading strategies?The research results show that the implementation of the scaffolding teaching model can improve students' English reading ability and level scores,thus the English reading scores can be improved and the English reading interest can be aroused.And in the process of English reading,by using the English reading strategies frequently,students' English reading ability can be improved and the connection between the new knowledge and previous knowledge can become more effectively.In addition,it can be seen from the interview results that the scaffolding teaching model makes the students become the master of the classroom,improves students' interest in English reading,enhance students' self-confidence and improve students' self-learning abilities.In order to enrich the practical teaching on the scaffolding teaching,the author makes some recommendations for future researches: 1)the role of the teacher and students should be located accurately.;2)the teacher should build up the scaffold for the students reasonably and cultivate students' self-learning ability;3)the traditional teaching model should be combined with the scaffolding teaching model to optimize the teaching process and learning process;4)the teacher should set up the learning goals reasonably based on the students' zone of proximal development to help students grasp English language and communicate with others smoothly.
