With the reform of English curriculum,the overall goal of English teaching has changed from cultivating students’ comprehensive language use ability to cultivating students’ English subject Key Competencies.The New English Curriculum Standards of Senior High school(2017)points out that the specific goal of English teaching is to cultivate students’ four Key Competencies of English: language competence,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.The reform of English teaching objectives requires that teaching methods should also be changed.Besides,teaching materials should be reorganized.Based on the above changes,how to make good use of textbooks to cultivate students’ English subject Key Competencies is very important.The latest edition Go for it was popularized and used in Nankang District,Ganzhou city,Jiangxi province since 2012,and it is still in use now.Therefore,it is necessary to study this set of textbooks to know the advantages and disadvantages in the implementation of Key Competencies,which is of great significance for the improvement of textbooks and further implementation of English Subject Key Competencies.This thesis includes six chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,which includes research background,purpose and significance of the research and research structure.The second chapter is composed with two parts.The first part is about the Key Competencies research abroad and in China,the second part is about the relevant researches on textbook evaluations.Based on the above thesis and criteria,the author study the research under the criteria of four aspects of English Subject Key Competencies which is put forward in the New English Curriculum Standards of Senior High school(2017).The third part is about the research method.It includes research subjects,research instruments,data collection and data analysis.The fourth part is a combination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis of the latest textbooks Go for it based on English Subject Key Competencies,which includes the language content and language skills,social cultural values,thinking quality valuesand learning strategies.By text analysis,the advantages and disadvantages of Go for it on cultivating students’ Key Competencies are summarized.In chapter Five,76 teachers and 360 students in Nankang District,Ganzhou city were selected as samples to conduct questionnaire surveys on the use of the latest Go for it based on English subject Key Competencies.Relevant data were collected through teachers’ and students’ questionnaires,and SPSS was used as a technical means to analyze the collected questionnaire survey data through frequency analysis.Finally,the implementation status of Go for it based on English Subject Key Competencies in Nankang District,Ganzhou city,Jiangxi province was summarized.The last part is the conclusion and suggestion parts.Based on the text analysis and questionnaires analysis,the author draws the conclusions that the latest Go for it is conductive to cultivate students’ English Subject Key Competencies,but there are still many aspects need to be improved.Then the author make a summary about the advantages and disadvantages of Go for it on the cultivation of students’ English Subject Key Competencies and puts forward some Suggestions to the textbook compilers,Nankang teaching and research office and teachers who use the textbooks,so as to improve the textbooks and better play the role of cultivating English Subject Key Competencies.
