This translation report is based on the Myths and Legends of the Bai,edited by the Office of the Folk Literature Integration of Yunnan Province, from the perspective of the Theory of Translation as Adaptation and Selection. The source text, the Myths and Legends of the Bai,mainly tells about different myths and legends of the Bai ethnic. They are Genesis Myths,Myths and Legends of the Dragon,Patron Gods, and Myths and Legends of the White King, among which the myths and legends of the Dragon is taken as the translation task, which mainly tells about different kinds of dragons, and is closely connected with the local customs and landscape.Hence,it forms a unique ethnic culture style with strong folk literature color. So it is of great value for spreading and promoting Chinese traditional ethnic culture to translate this kind of text.In the process of translation, the theory of Translation as Adaptation and Selection is applied to guide the translation, which is borrowed from the basis thought and principle of Darwin's Evolutionary Theory on the “adaptation” of organisms to the environment and the “selection” of environment to organisms. And the translation is defined as a translator's adaptation and selection activities in a translational eco-environment.Such an eco-environment includes the worlds of the source text and the source/target languages, the linguistic, communicative, cultural and social aspects of translating,as well as the author, the client, and the readers. What's more, under the principle of multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive selection, this translation theory mainly focuses on the adaptive selection and transformation on linguistic, cultural and communicative aspects, which can systematically and comprehensively guide the translation of this literary works.Under the guidance of this translation theory, the author uses several cases and translation methods, such as free translation, literal translation and notes, conversionand so on,to analyze the translation from linguistic, cultural and communicative levels, which is aimed at making adaptation to the source text and selection at the target language in the literary translation, which can better standardize the expressions of the target language, and easily be acceptable by target readers,so as to better show and spread the beauty contained in culture in the original language. There are two parts in the translation report. The first part is the source text and its translated text, and the second one is translation report, which includes four sections. The first section is the description of the translation task, including background and significance of the translation task and the theme and style of the source text. The second section is the translation process, including the preparations, translation, revision and final draft and difficulties in the translation. The third one is case analysis, which is based on the translation theory and strategies. And the last one is conclusion based on the translation experience and some unresolved problems.
