A Report On The Translation Of Network Literature Under The Guidance Of Translation As Adaptation And Selection

With the development of information technology and network popularization,network literature has become the most popular literature in China,and gradually exported to foreign countries.In recent years,a large number of international network platforms have imported and translated many great Chinese online novels in English versions that have been well received abroad and attracted lots of faithful readers.This translation practice is an English translation of a network novel which signed by Yuewen Group.Its content is more than 12,000 words,and covers daily life,basketball competition,business operation and other aspects.The report is divided into four main parts.The first part introduces the background and content of this practice as well as the features of literature texts.The second part introduces the translation process,including the preparation,translation and proofreading.The third part introduces the Theory of Translation as Adaptation and Selection firstly,and then expresses the guiding role of multi-dimensional adaptation principle in translation practice through specific examples.The fourth part is the conclusion which includes the inspiration,achievements and difficulties during this practice.This translation practice develop my understanding and realizing about the guiding role and the ability of translation theories to lay a foundation for translators in the process of practice.The translator should optimize the text and complete the translation on the basis of translation theory.This translation practice is finished under the guidance of the theory of adaptation and selection in translation.The principle of “multi-dimensional adaptation” requires translators to consider language,communication,culture,society,author,reader and client as a whole,and to make multi-dimensional adaptation in accordance with the translation ecological environment on the basis of faithfulness to the original text.And the principle of “adaptive selection” requires translators to make different choices in accordance with the translation ecological environment on the basis of multi-dimensional adaptation,because it is impossible and unrealistic for translators to adapt to the “all factors” of the ecological environment in the process of translation.The basic translation principles of the theory of translation as adaptation and selection can be summarized as “multi-dimensional adaptation and adaptive choice”,and its method is the adaptive choice transformation of language dimension,culture dimension and communication dimension.In conclusion,it is essential to understand the multi-dimensional background of the original text’s language,communication and society in the process of translating literary works.
