The Narrative Strategies And Enlightenments Of Hollywood Superhero Movie Series “Marvel Cinematic Universe”

In recent years,the serialization of movies has gradually become the most popular business model in Hollywood.Among them,the superhero series "Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU)",which produced by Disney’s Marvel Studio is adapted from Marvel Comics,now is with great innovative significance in narrative mode.It creates a series of movies of independent super-hero characters,and then combine these multiple series to make assembling movies series.Therefore,this thesis focuses on the exploration of MCU from the perspective of narrative strategy.This thesis mainly uses case analysis method and text analysis method,taking a total of 21 MCU films released during 2008 to March 2019,combining the theory of film narratology and Hollywood genre film studies to explores which narrative strategies are used in MCU,and what enlightenments can be brought to the creation of movies,especially movie series in China.This thesis is divided into six components.The main content of the first part introduction is to submit questions,the research status,the research methods and innovations,and the theoretical basis of the thesis.The second part to the fifth part are main parts of this thesis.The second part is a general overview of the MCU narrative mode.First of all,to compare the three main narrative modes of movie series,which are the sequels,prequels and MCU.It is found that MCU is characterized by the existence of multiple core protagonists and multiple independent but full of connected story lines,so the formation of narrative time and space is more free;secondly,it traces the source of MCU from the adaptation of the original Marvel Comics,and finds that its narrative mode draws heavily from the Marvel comics,radiating the comic writing thinking into the movie creation;finally,from the diachronic point of view,comparing MCU with the previous superhero movies,it is found that the narrative mode of multi-hero and multi-story clues can solve the problem of aesthetic fatigue of a single superhero as the protagonist to a certain extent,and it contains more narrative energy.The third part analyzes the narrative strategy of the characters in the narrative content of MCU.There are three types of superheroes in MCU,which bring a diversified experience.Marvel uses the unique design of superhero uniforms and logos to shape the characters;in the relationship design,Marvel’s multiple characters are independent of each other,which presents a decentralized mesh structure,and there is full of collision of ideas between those characters in MCU.The fourth part further analyzes the plot of the narrative strategy of MCU on the basis of the previous thesis.MCU uses four clues to lay out the process from a single-person series to an assembled film,which is a rare and intertwined contrasting narrative structure.At the same time,MCU breaks the plot paradigm of the genre film,and combines the elements of comedy and thriller to form its own plot characteristics.The fifth part combines the current status of the creation of domestically produced movie series to explore the enlightenment of MCU.The last part is the conclusion.
