In this thesis,the author chooses "Heshi" and "Shihe" as the topic for enquiry,and conductsan empirical analysis based on the CCL corpus.This paper analyzes the errors made by the students in using these two words found in three foreign students' composition corpus,summarizes the causes of these errors,and puts forward suggestions for teaching.This paper carries out statistical analysis of "Heshi" and "Shihe" using the CCL corpus.It determines that in terms of syntax,the words are mostly preceded by adverbs and verbs."Heshi" asa predicate cannot be followed by an object,whereas "Shihe" can be followed bya nominal object,predicate object,pivotal clause or have no object.Furthermore,unlike "Shihe","Heshi" is can be used as an attributive or subject.In terms of semantics,the topic of "Shihe" is richer than "Heshi",as it is used in behavioral,abstract and concrete contexts.The action object of "Shihe" is typically concrete,method or person.Through investigation of three composition corpus,the most common error with "Heshi" and "Shihe" is their incorrect use with words,followed by incorrect placement order and incorrect addition of words.This paper asserts that the causes of error may be due to interlingual transfer,intralingual transfer,learning environments and communication strategies.Since these two wordsare taught at different textbook levels,this thesis recommends certain teaching methods,progressive teaching principles,and phased induction teaching strategy.
