In the age of information,learning and understanding numbers is an essential skill in daily life,numbers are especially important for perceiving and understanding the world.The Attentional SNARC effect is one of the hot spots in the field of cognitive psychology,it has been shown that the processing of numeric and non-numeric symbols will cause spatial attention shift and induce the Attentional SNARC effect.In this study,a total of 140 college students were selected as subjects,using the target detection paradigm of Dodd et al.,(2008),using numbers(1,2,8,9)and non-numeric symbols(a,b,y,z)as experimental materials to develop four sub-studies in turn to reveal the effect of the stimulus type and modes of presentation on the Attentional SNARC effect.In the first experiment,under the condition of horizontal detection target,the numbers(1,2,8,9)were used as experimental materials,activating the sequence position information of the numbers to explore its influence on the Attentional SNARC effect;On the basis of experiment 1,experiment 2 uses non-numeric symbols(a,b,y,z)as experimental materials,activating non-numeric sequence position information to explore its influence on the Attentional SNARC effect;In the experiment 3,under the condition of vertical detection target,numbers(1,2,8,9)are used as the experimental material,and the sequence position information of the numbers are activated to explore its influence on the Attentional SNARC effect;On the basis of Experiment 3,Experiment 4 uses non-numeric symbols(a,b,y,z)as experimental materials and activate non-numeric sequence position information and explore its influence on the Attentional SNARC effect.The research findings shown that:(1)Under the condition that the target is detected horizontally,the numbers stimulus can cause spatial attention shift,and the numbers at the front of the sequence shift to the left space,and the numbers at the end of the sequence shift to the right space;(2)Under the condition that the target is detected horizontally,non-numeric stimulus can cause spatial attention shift,and the non-numeric symbols located at the front of the sequence shift to the left space,and the non-numeric symbols at the end of the sequence shift to the right side;(3)Under the condition that the target is detected vertically,numbers can cause spatial attention shift,and the numbers at the front of the sequence shift to the lower space,and the numbers at the end of the sequence shift to the upper space;(4)Under the condition that the target is detected vertically,non-numeric stimulus can cause spatial attention shift,and the non-numeric symbols at the front of the sequence shift to the lower space,and the non-numeric symbols at the end of the sequence shift to the upper space.Based on the above findings,we can draw the following conclusions:(1)Both numbers and non-numeric symbols can cause spatial attention shift under the conditions whether the target is detected horizontally or vertically,which will cause the Attentional SNARC effect definitely;(2)Sequence information of material can induce the attention SNARC effect.
