Role Of The Interpreter In Chinese Culture-related Lecture Interpretation

Cross-cultural communication becomes more active with the frequent interactions carried out among different countries at various levels.During the communicating process,interpreter's actual performance may promote or hinder the communication between the two sides.Therefore,studies on the interpreter hold a certain position in the interpreting studies.This paper is devoted to exploring the role of the interpreter in Chinese culture-related lecture interpretation.The material of this paper comes from the author's practice of a Chinese calligraphy lecture at Confucius Institute of Cairo University.In addition to discussing the role of the interpreter,characteristics of Chinese culture-related lecture are also mentioned which is another unique feature of this paper.To begin with,the paper provides a brief introduction to the research background,the purpose and significance of the paper and then proceeds with a literature review on the role of the interpreter and discusses the characteristics of Chinese culture-related lecture.The Chinese culture-related lecture includes the characteristics of being meaning hidden,purpose clear,information loaded,content professional.As mentioned above,the main material for this paper comes from the author's practice.The author will firstly introduce the task background and task preparation.Afterwards,the author will analyze the multiple roles of the interpreter including message deliverer,event participator,communication facilitator and cultural mediator in Chinese culture-related lecture interpretation according to the author's practice.In addition,problem analyses and coping strategies will also be discussed,which helps the author gain a detailed and deep understanding about her performance.Through reflections and self-evaluations in the fifth section,the paper can reach a conclusion including suggestions and limitations regards the role of the interpreter in Chinese culture-related lecture interpretation.In conclusion,this paper details the different roles of the interpreter in Chinese culture-related lecture interpretation,serving as a self-reflection and guiding the author's future interpreting practice in related areas.
