English reading comprehension plays an irreplaceable role in English learning of Junior High School students.Traditional English reading lessons are teacher-centered without considering the essence of reading comprehension.This study explores the application of mind map in junior English teaching,a new teaching model which can serve as a teaching assistant and thinking visualization tool and provide creative and valuable support for high-efficient classroom and high-level reading ability.Based on the practical conditions,document retrieval method,experiment method,questionnaire method,and interviewing method were mainly adopted in this research.The participants are students from two parallel classes in Grade Nine,which were divided into Control Class and Experiment Class randomly.The experiment lasted for one month.Data were collected through pre-assessment,post-assessment and questionnaire,and counted and analyzed by SPSS.Part of the subjects in the experiment class was interviewed as well.Through substantial data analysis before the experiment,students? English levels in the two targeted classes were almost the same.After one semester,students in the Experimental Class and Control Class have both made improvements compared with pre-assessment.However,students? improvements under traditional teaching model are far less than that under new model with mind map.Students under new teaching with mind map have made distinctive progress in English.In conclusion,mind map does have a remarkable influence on reading comprehension.According to the results of data analysis,this research,the mind map reading teaching method is beneficial for students to grasp the framework and thread of passages,deeply understand and retell the context.Also,mind map could strengthen the communication and cooperation between students and teachers,which profoundly changes teachers? teaching conception.The teacher is no longer the dominator in class by leading the lecture and keeping talking.It is students who start to show their initiatives.
