| Since the 1970 s,China’s economy witnessed huge progress, which generated a great demand for interpreting. In this process, however, the interpreter has always been ignored. As time goes by,the interpreter’s subjectivity has come to draw people’s attention.More and more scholars begin to focus on this area. The author introduces interpreter’s subjectivity in liaison interpreting. The interpreter is the very subject in liaison interpreting instead of just “a decoder between two languages”.Due to cultural factors and highly-condensed Chinese expressions, interpreting from Chinese to English can be extremely difficult sometimes. The interpreter has to transfer different language symbols, link up diverse cultural mechanisms and coordinate complicated communication relationships. The interpreter is a significant part of the interpreting process, and will greatly impact the result of the conversation. Therefore, the interpreter should give full play to interpreter’s subjectivity and adopt different strategies to facilitate the meeting.Considering that this task is mainly from Chinese to English, the author chose omission, addition and explanation, free translation as the major coping tactics. This report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is about description of the task, background and client of this task. The second chapter is the description of the process, including collecting relevant information,glossary-making and accent adaptation. The third chapter introduces the theoretical framework of this report. The fourth chapter is the coping tactics under interpreter’s subjectivity and case analysis. The last chapter mainly points out the limits and suggestions of this report, which hopes to offer some valuable advice for other people who are going to engage in this area in the future. |
