The source text chosen by the translator is Chapter Six,the core chapter of the book Small Fry.It is in this chapter that the writer Lisa moves to her father?s house and the time she spends with her father has a big influence on her life.Reading this chapter makes me think a lot about my own life,so I decide to translate it so that more people can read this story and make some changes to their own lives. In the process of translating the source text, the translator mainly adopts Google Translation as the CAT tool and completes the translation with “a second original in its own right” as the guiding ideology.According to this ideology,a good translation must be readable and make sense in its own right.Under the guidance of this ideology, the translator analyzes the translation process from lexical level, syntactic level and textual level, trying to produce a relatively satisfying translation. The report is mainly divided into three parts.Part one gives a description of the translating task, including an introduction to the writer and the source text, reasons for selecting the text and the significance of the translation project.Part two deals with process description, with pre-translation preparations and post-translation management included.Part three focuses on case analysis, illustrating what theory the translator uses to guide her work and how the translator tries to solve problems encountered during the process of translating. With the translation practice and the report, the translator intends to,on the one hand, raise translators? awareness of “a second original in its own right”,on the other hand, draw more attention to the translation of biographies.
