As an active participant in the international contacts,Chinese translation industry is in the progress of professionalization, and playing an important role in social system. However, there are still some obstacles on the way to its professionalization. In order to cope with these problems, the related department and association have formulated and issued a series of industrial standards and specifications. What are the status quo of these standards and specifications? And what can they enlighten us in terms of legislation of translation industry? That is the subject of this thesis. The author raises the three questions: 1)In light of Chesterman's theory of translation norms, what should the norms of translation industry be? 2)What is the status quo of the norms and law in Chinese translation industry? 3)What is the feasible way of translation legislation in China? To answer the above questions, the author first adopts Chesterman's theory of translation norms to find what the norms of translation industry should be through bibliographic analysis and theoretical analysis. Then based on the norms of translation industry,a case study of current norms in Chinese translation industry are conducted, and after that the statistic results are found to analyze the gap between the norms and law. Finally, the feasible components of legislation of translation industry are explored. This thesis is the first attempt,in light of Chesterman's theory of translation norms,to comb and analyze all the industry standards and specifications issued by Translators Association of China(2003-2017).Based on the classification model of translation norms,a norm model of Chinese translation industry is formed. Then, from the perspective of sociology of law,the thesis probes into the relationship between norms and law,to find the feasible way to the legislation in Chinese translation service industry.
