A Comparative Study Of Confucius And Plato's Thought Of Rule Of Virtue

The idea of rule by virtue was put forward by Confucius and Plato on the basis of the social existence at that time.The purpose is how to better govern the country and govern the people.It is the ethical and moral thought in the traditional culture of China and the West,and it is also a kind of political wisdom.To this day,the rule of virtue has an important influence on the development of Chinese and Western society.Comparing Confucius and Plato's thoughts on the rule of virtue between China and the West,we can better understand and grasp the rule of virtue and use it to serve the building of socialism with Chinese characteristics.The research object of this thesis is the rule of virtue,using comparative research as a means and using literature analysis and other methods to deeply analyze Confucius' s thought of rule by virtue and Plato's thought of rule by virtue.Confucius' s thought of rule by virtue is a further exertion of the predecessor's "emphasis on morality".It is mainly based on the inheritance of Zhou Gong's "dedication to the heavens" and "respect for the people and the people".The idea of "politics and morality" systematizes the "rule of virtue" influenced the politics of China for thousands of years.The proposal of Plato's rule of thought is inspired by Socrates' thought.He believes that morality is the foundation of politics.It is an important factor in the orderly operation of Greek city-state politics.Although in Plato's later thoughts,the focus shifted to the "rule of law",it is still based on "rule of virtue." Plato's thought of rule by virtue plays an important role in promoting individual development,maintaining social fairness and justice,and influencing Western politics.On the basis of interpreting Confucius and Plato's thoughts,we compare,analyze and explore the deep fit and contrast between the two theories of morality in the background,main content and social role.Finally,by comparing each other,the significance of the comparison between Confucius and Plato's thoughts is clarified,which has a good enlightenment for current social governance.The characteristics of this paper are as follows: First,the the introduction and elaboration of Plato's thoughts,and the special research of Plato's thoughts by domestic and foreign scholars is still lacking.Second,the Confucius' s thought of rule by virtue and the idea of Plato's rule are compared,and there are few special studies at home and abroad.Third,through the analysis,interpretation and comparison of Confucius and Plato's thoughts,we have made it clearer the value and role played by the rule of virtue in political life.
