Unmanned aerial vehicles first appeared in the 1920 s and came in full swing in the First World War.Nowadays,the demand for unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)with various civilian and military capabilities is booming.This paper is a report on the translation of Classifications,Applications,and Design Challenges of Drones: A review(Hereinafter referred to as review),an academic article published in "Progress in Aerospace Sciences",a journal that ranks first according to “DGLR Top 40 Aerospace Journal Ranking of 2015”.The Review classified the new UAVs from unmanned aerial vehicles to smart dust,introduced their new definition and application,and discussed in detail the design and manufacturing difficulties of the UAVs,existing methods to improve their durability,and various navigation and control methods.The thematic progression modes was first proposed by Danes(1974)that every text or paragraph can be viewed as a linguistic whole composed of themes and rhemes.Danes proposed five thematic progression modes: simple linear progression,TP with a constant theme,TP with a derived theme,split rheme pattern,skipping theme pattern.Based on these TP modes,many scholars in China proposed their own patterns.These patterns generally can be divided into same theme,same rheme,continuation and derivation and split rheme progression.Through corpus comparison,this report finds that abstracts of articles in English in the aerospace field are more dependent on thematic progression than Chinese articles.The most prominent thematic progression mode in English is thematic identity progression,while its continuous progression in Chinese.In most cases,both languages rely on thematic progression to construct texts,and the thematic progression patterns of the two languages have much in common in sci-tech texts,so retaining the thematic patterns usually contributes to fluent translation.However,in some cases,due to the differences in syntax and ways of thinking,it is necessary to reconstruct the thematic progression mode to produce a translation that conforms to the habits of the target language.
