The New Leipzig School of Painting originated from the Leipzig School of Book Art and Graphic Design in eastern Germany. The School of Painting was founded and developed in a turbulent society. It experienced a series of social changes and transformations, from the Leipzig School to the new Leipzig today. In the era of chaos, artists have also integrated their thoughts on a series of changes in personal experience into their own artistic creations. The New Leipzig School of Painting is therefore unique in the international art world. The main representatives of the New Leipzig School are Neo Rauch,David Schnell,Tim Eitel, etc.Among them,Neo Rauch’s creations are mostly human-oriented,with a dramatic stage.Using figurative and partial abstract painting techniques to describe the absurd and bizarre scene;David Schnell is good at expanding the infinitely extended virtual space in the picture and using various elements to form a unique landscape world.Tim Eitel’s work has a strong emotional rendering power, and the seemingly calm scene implies uneasiness, embodying a state of loneliness, solitude, and aimlessness, with strong hints. In general, the works of the New Leipzig School of Art are mostly based on their own and combined with the consideration of the social environment and a rational understanding of the country’s democracy,at the same time, they also describe the values and worldview of individual ideals in different places. The first chapter of this article combs the origins of the New Leipzig School of Painting from the Leipzig School to the development of the New Leipzig School. The second chapter focuses on the three most representative artists in the New Leipzig School:Neo Rauch’s absurd narrative and unconventional color contrast;the extension of David Schnell’s space and the fragmentation of color;Tim Eitel’s theme selection, plane space composition and flat color performance. The third chapter outlines the creative experience that I formed through the study of the representative figures of the New Leipzig School of Painting, mainly from the three aspects of subject selection, expression language and emotional expression.
