In recent years, with the vigorous development of “the Belt and Road” construction in China, the demand for translation has increased sharply.Translation can be reflected as the cognitive interaction between source language and target language. So,this report discusses the translation of adverbial clauses from the perspective of Cognitive linguistics,in order to demonstrate the guiding role of linguistic theory in translation. The translation report mainly discusses the English to Chinese translation strategies of adverbial clauses with the guidance of the Figure-Ground theory in Cognitive linguistics. From the forth part of Translation as Communication across Languages and Cultures, the translator selects three types of adverbial clauses: the adverbial clauses of condition, the adverbial clauses of cause, and the adverbial clauses of time.Based on the Figure-Ground theory, the prominent relationship of English and Chinese between adverbial clause and main clause is discussed in this paper. After a large number of case studies, the conclusions can be reached that adverbial clause is generally regarded as“ground” in complex sentence, while the main clause is often used as “figure”.In the process of translation, translators should fully consider the different prominent relations in English and Chinese, then select the proper translation strategy and ensure the equivalence and readability of translation. The practice has proved that the Figure-Ground theory can not only help analyzing the prominent relation in adverbial clauses, but also have a powerful explanation in the translation of adverbial clauses. The E-C translation practice of adverbial clauses can be more accurate and efficient with the guidance of Figure-Ground theory.Figure 1;Table 1;Reference 42...
